000 is the name of a less well known model railway gauge, half the size of much better known 00. It has a scale of 1∶160, which equates to 8 mm (0.315 in) between the track rails.
Pioneered by Lone Star in 1957, arriving late on the railway modelling scene. Though short lived, it was a precursor to the most successful small gauge for model railways, the N gauge.
The next few pages aim to give an insight into this largely forgotten model railway gauge.
